When you live in the pacific northwest, you take the scenic route whenever you possibly can. Our chosen route home from Loon Lake in Eastern Washington included a stop to hike (and dip our toes in the snow melt fed Skagit River) in the incredibly beautiful North Cascades National Park. The old growth forests and rivers and towering mountain peaks topped with snow fields are so beautiful in the summer. We managed to find a spot where we were almost alone in the woods, aside from a few evening hikers from the nearby campground.
